When you need to confirm someone’s criminal history, accuracy and compliance are critical. Avon Investigations provides certified criminal history checks for businesses, landlords, law firms, and private clients across New Zealand.
We obtain official Ministry of Justice information to confirm whether an individual has any convictions. Every check is performed lawfully, with the full consent of the person the check relates to and verified identification, ensuring your results are accurate, secure, and compliant with privacy legislation.
What We Need to Get Started
To begin your criminal history check, please ensure you’ve completed the following:
- Certified Criminal History Consent Form – this must be completed and signed by the person being checked.
- Identification – upload a clear photograph or scan of one of the following:
- NZ or international passport,
- NZ driver licence, or
- NZ firearms licence.
- Application Form – submit the completed consent and ID via the link below. Once received, we’ll review your information and issue an invoice for $65 + GST.
- On receipt of payment, your certified criminal history check will commence. Most checks are completed within three working days.

Every check follows a clear, lawful, and efficient workflow.
Step 1 – Instruction & documentation
You complete the online Consent Form and upload the required identification. We review these documents to confirm validity before proceeding.
Step 2 – Verification & invoicing
Once your details are confirmed, we issue an invoice for $65 + GST. Upon payment, your request is submitted to the Ministry of Justice for official processing.
Step 3 – Processing & confirmation
The Ministry of Justice completes the criminal history check. We monitor progress and ensure accuracy throughout the process.
Step 4 – Reporting & delivery
Within approximately three working days, we provide your certified criminal history report, summarised clearly and delivered securely to your nominated contact.
*Completion time is based on receipt of full documentation, identification, and payment. Delays may occur if information is incomplete or inaccurate.

In some cases, yes. We are connected with investigators all over the world and can make enquiries with certain countries if you believe there may be relevant information in someone’s overseas background.
Yes, but keep in mind they only cover offences that haven’t yet resulted in a conviction (e.g. active cases before the Courts).
No, you can’t. Consent is required.
We have an agreement with the Ministry of Justice that allows us (with an individual’s consent) to obtain their criminal history. This can be incredibly useful before entering into a business or employment relationship with someone you don’t know well.
